Iowa Boating - Two Great Rivers and Everything Between
Iowa sits between two of the most significant rivers in North America - the Missouri on the west and the Mississippi on the east - and both offer boat ramp access and legitimate recreational boating that gets overlooked because Iowa doesn't market itself as a boating destination.
The Mississippi River along Iowa's eastern border has ramp access at multiple towns and is managed through a combination of Iowa DNR facilities and Army Corps of Engineers sites. The river here flows through a series of navigation pools behind the lock and dam system, which creates long reservoir-like stretches that are popular for walleye and catfishing.
