Nebraska Boating - More Options Than You'd Expect

Nebraska's boating options are more extensive than the state's landlocked Plains reputation would suggest, driven largely by the Missouri River on the eastern border and a collection of reservoirs and sandhills lakes that serve the local population year-round.
Lewis and Clark Lake on the South Dakota border is the state's premier boating destination, a reservoir on the Missouri River with good Corps ramp infrastructure and a well-developed recreation area. The walleye fishing there has a strong regional following. Lake McConaughy in the western panhandle is the largest reservoir in the state and sits in a landscape that surprises first-time visitors, clear water surrounded by sand dunes and open sky. McConaughy is known for its sailing and windsurfing as well as fishing, because the wind in western Nebraska is consistent and strong.
The Sandhills region in the north-central part of the state has a collection of natural lakes and wetlands that are less developed but offer genuine solitude for paddling and small-boat fishing.
The Platte River system provides some flatwater float trip access, though it's more of a wade-fishing and canoe river than powerboat water in most of its Nebraska reach.
Nebraska state park access fees apply at most publicly managed ramps, and an annual park entry permit makes financial sense if you're boating more than a few times in a season.
