Nevada's boating is desert boating, and the two big reservoirs here, Lake Mead and Lake Tahoe shared with California, represent very different experiences on the same spectrum.
Lake Mead on the Arizona border is the largest reservoir by volume in the United States when it's full, but it has been nowhere near full in recent years. Water levels dropped dramatically through the extended drought that began in the early 2000s, and while levels have recovered partially, the situation has fluctuated significantly. Ramp closures and access changes at Mead have been regular news items, so checking current water levels and which ramps are operational before making the drive is essential planning, not optional.
Lake Mohave below Hoover Dam is narrower and more canyon-bound than Mead, and tends to have clearer water and a somewhat less crowded experience. The ramps at Willow Beach and Katherine Landing serve the lake and are managed by the NPS.
Lake Tahoe, though primarily associated with California, has Nevada ramp access at several points including the Incline Village area. Tahoe is one of the clearest large lakes in North America and has strict environmental regulations to keep it that way, including engine emission standards that prohibit two-stroke carbureted engines. Know what your motor is before you drive to Tahoe.
The smaller reservoirs near Reno - Pyramid Lake, which is actually a natural lake and a Paiute tribal resource with specific access requirements, and Lahontan Reservoir - serve the local population and have public ramp access with varying infrastructure.
